Pride Night at The Square

Mark your calendar for Pride Night at The Square, a Pride on the Block kick-off party on June 2nd from 6-9PM. Transpire Help, Rohi's Readery and Compass LGBTQ are coming together to host a variety of events throughout the evening to celebrate Pride.

This event will feature face painting, live music, Pride photo moments, bites from Taqueria Bonitas and vegan sweet treats and specials from Angie's Epicurean. Rohi’s Readery, The Square’s social justice driven children’s bookstore, will also showcase a series of LGBTQ youth short films for all ages. The finale will be the lighting of The Wishing Tree at 8:30PM.

Activity Schedule:

6-9PM: Live music and face painting on the lawn, plus Pride keepsake craft at lululemon with chance to win lululemon pride socks

6-8PM: Nature Art Activity with Autumn Kioti in front of Urban Outfitters - Learn about the amazing diversity found in the world around us while creating your own masterpiece.

6:30-8:30PM: Art class with Wave Artist-in-Residence artist Devin Osorio in front of Rohi's Readery

8:30PM: Lighting of The Wishing Tree 

Short Film Schedule at Rohi's Readery:

6:30PM: “Sweetheart Dancers” (14 mins.) — Appropriate for all ages- this sweet documentary about an indigenous gay couple who compete in traditional dancing shows them challenging powwow rules against same-sex couples. But the emphasis is on the dancing.

7:00PM “Pink Boy” (15 mins.) — Documentary of a dress-wearing 6-year-old boy living in rural Florida and the family that creates a safe space for his sartorial choices.

7:30PM “In a Heartbeat” (4 mins.) — This animated short about a boy who literally loses his heart to his crush and they find each other in the end. - "Out" (10 minutes) - Tells the story of a grown man coming out to his parents as he’s about to move in with his partner.

8:00PM "Rosaline" (4 min) — From the creators of The Bravest Knight, Rosaline is a short, animated film that tells the story of a brave young woman in a fairytale land who outwits every villain in her path to get to her sweetheart.

There will be special presentations at Rohi's Readery that include a selection of exhibitions from artist Rolando Chang Barrero from The Rostros Emotivos Series and a presentation of the late Stephen Crohn by The Box Gallery.
